The first season of the event was launched at the opening ceremony of Shanghai International Biomedical Industry Week in October 2021, and the competition was finalized in January 2022. As a result, 5 companies won the Excellence Enterprise Award and 10 other companies were nominated, covering innovative drugs, innovative devices and services, cell and gene therapy, and other frontier fields of biomedicine.

The event recalled the first season of Biomedical "Stars of Tomorrow" and presented medals to the winning and nominated companies. After the award ceremony, experts and officers from Shanghai Customs, Shanghai Center for Drug Evaluation and Inspection, Shen Kang Center, Shanghai Office of Small and Medium Enterprises, and Pudong Intellectual Property Protection Center promoted the relating policies. They also had in-depth discussion with the participating enterprises on topics such as facilitation of customs clearance for specific items for biopharmaceuticals, the policy of pharmacovigilance service, Hi-Clip clinical trial accelerator, novel declaration policy and VIP clearance for IPR filing.

The biomedical "Stars of Tomorrow" event is a new exploration and attempt to focus on the biomedical industry in the context of the forwarded global industrial competition stage, accelerated technology iteration and shortened R&D cycle, so as to carry out industrial promotion and investment in the business. It is aiming to launch and support the biopharmaceutical “Stars of Tomorrow" with technology breakthroughs, industrial leaderships and huge market potential in Shanghai through a distinctive theme, targeted and precise selection, scientific and professional evaluation and integrated resource support. This program also focuses on the selection of emerging technology and innovative enterprises in the field of biopharmaceuticals in China and the world.
